Day12

Boracay to Ilo Ilo

Taking a water taxi back to Panay Island, we remount the Kawasaki's and head back into the Nabas Hills along quiet back roads, paved and unpaved. It’s devoid of traffic and beautiful, with dense jungle creeping to the edge of the road and stretching to the distant hilltops. We pass through a small town where the locals are drying rice on thin mats placed on the paved road.

On the western coast of Panay Island, the road runs along the fertile plain between the ocean and the inland mountain range. Small towns dot the coast and rice paddies and palm trees fill the plain in between. Steep foothills covered in grasses rise dramatically from the plain, and broad rivers sweep majestically from the mountains and continue to fan out until they reach the sea.

South of San Jose, the road heads up and over the mountain. We call this section “Motard Mountain” and for good reason. The sinuous road clings to the folds of the mountain as it ascends, but is interrupted in places where the earth has moved or been washed away. Perfectly paved bends crumble without warning into dusty, rocky construction areas and reappear, whole again, within 50 yards. It is an unpredictable and exhilarating romp, a supreme test of bike and rider. One second you are leaned over hard, rear tire squirming for grip, and the next you are dropping off a 6-inch lip onto gravel and hard-pack. A smattering of houses crowd the edge of the road along this stretch, and their residents lounge outside, watching the impromptu parade of KLRs.

Stopping in Ilo Ilo for the night.

Distance Approx 280km

Day13-14

Board the morning ferry ride across to Negros Island.  From Bacolod we head south down the coastline to the sleepy village of Sipalay where we will spend two nights enjoying all this peaceful spot of paradise has to offer. Take in a dive or snorkel while you are here, or visit an old abandoned mine for a short ride.

Distance approx 200 km

Day 15

Depart Sipalay  for a incredible twisty ride down a coastal road ride to Bayawan, from here we turn inland to the mountains for an offroad ride to visit and swim at breathtaking waterfalls. We come out back on the main road in the village of Mabinay for a lunch break. Continuing down a winding mountain roads to the city of Bias onto our final stop for the night Dumaguete.

Distance approx 230 km
